Ornithological tour through the "Bird Kingdom of Galicia"
During this tour we will visit several amazing locations for birdwatching.
Firstly we will head to the Upper part of the Dnister river. We will spend three day birdwatching - rafting down one of the Europeans most scenic canyons, the Dnister Canyon. Worth mentioning that in this location is ideal for even the most novice rowers, with very calm waters (no rapids at all).
This trip has it all - spectacular views of the red-rock banks, steep canyon walls, gentle meanders of the Dnsiter River and of course many different species of birds. In the shallows at the water edge you can see such birds as: Black Stork, White Stork, Great White Egret, Little Egret and Grey Heron.
In shrubs and woods that grow along a river bank you can also see: Golden Oriole, Red-backed Shrike, Common Rosefinch, Thrush Nightingale, Lesser Whitethroat, River Warbler.
And some species of woodpeckers: Grey-headed Woodpecker, Wryneck, Middle Spotted Woodpecker, Lesser Spotted Woodpecker.
In meadows and fields you can see Hoopoe, Corncrake, Yellow Wagtail (race flava), Turtle Dove, etc.
Also we will see a small colony of European Bee-eaters.
Among the birds of prey which will be interesting to see: Black Kite and Lesser Spotted Eagle.
Second location for birdwatching is Galician National Park, where are located on 2000 acres of fish ponds and a reedbeds. In this location we can watch for several colonies...
- A mixed colony of Black-necked Grebe and Whiskered Tern.
- Great White Egret colony.
- A mixed colony of Night Heron and Little Egret.
Also there are such birds as: Little Bittern , Red-necked Grebe, Penduline Tit, Great Reed Warbler. Sometimes you can see Purple Heron and Ferruginous Duck.
The old beech forest.
Karst relief together with rare species of plants form an incredible landscape of this territory.
There you can see: Red-breasted Flycatcher, Collared Flycather, Hawfinch, Nuthatch, Ural Owl, Towny Owl, and many species of European woodpeckers too: Black Woodpecker, Grey-headed Woodpecker, Green Woodpecker, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Syrian Woodpacker, White-backed Woodpecker, Middle Spotted Woodpecker, Lesser Spotted Woodpecker.
